Indiana Accident Report
INDIANAPOLIS — State Rep. Dennis Tyler (D-Muncie) today stood in front of members of the Indiana House to honor and recognize all of the individuals involved in saving the life of Paige Williamson, a teenager from Muncie who survived a near fatal car crash in April 2006. Tyler introduced House Concurrent Resolution 61, which tells the story of Paige's remarkable survival and honors all of the medical and emergency personnel responsible for saving her life. The resolution was supported unanimously by members of the House. "Paige's miraculous story begins with the immediate action taken by Troy Hunt, a Hamilton Township volunteer firefighter who began tending to Paige after she was thrown through the windshield of a friend's vehicle, landing in his yard," Tyler said. "Hunt remained with Paige until an ambulance delivered her to Ball Memorial Hospital."
Paige had suffered from two collapsed lungs, numerous broken bones and various other internal injuries. "Upon admittance to Ball Memorial Hospital, Dr. Brad Hayes and the rest of the emergency room staff inserted a chest tube into both of her lungs. This step was credited with saving her life," Tyler continued. Paige was then transported by LifeLine Helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where she overcame her estimated one percent chance of survival through the skill and determination of the Pediatric Critical Care Unit staff. Paige was transferred from intensive care to the rehabilitation floor in only five days.
"The story of this young lady's survival is a testament to the determination of everybody who worked to keep her alive," Tyler said. "As Paige's neighbor, I am personally grateful to these brave individuals. They are shining examples of the dedication, compassion and excellence of medical providers and emergency personnel in Indiana." Paige has made a full recovery since her life altering accident. She is an active high school student athlete with an impeccable academic record.
